For the past several years, Masseria has been quite likely one of our all-time favorite restaurants in the country. The fact that Tammy and I lived a comfortable walk from the Upper West Side location was an added bonus. When I first arrived in NYC, in late '15/early '16, Tam was working for DWELL Magazine. The hours were long, the work was steady, and the pressure, intense. So, after many a long day, we'd stroll over, grab a seat at the bar, order either a hearty glass of Pinot, or more likely their "world famous Old Fashioned." Ah, that washed the dust off any difficult day with a robust flair. Now to the food. It is fresh, delicious, and plentiful in the variety. The wait staff was cordial and efficient. All in all, the experience was superb. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because, after planning for months and anticipating for at least as long, my wife, along with my beautiful sister and her partner, we celebrated my 60th there. And while it continued to retain the memories, the food portions had shrunk, the wait staff had lost their gloss, and the overall "Homey Feel" seems to have diminished. Perhaps it was because our favorite manager was not on duty, or perhaps it was an off night. Either way, I'm sure the next time we're in town, we'll stop in for at least an Old Fashioned. You should too. Cheers!
