GOODONYA Organic Eatery — Encinitas, CA · $$$ · Originally reviewed 2019

Healthy and organic still has to taste like somebody tried.

QUICK TAKE: SKIP — I ALREADY GAVE IT THE SECOND CHANCE.

This one hurts because I wanted to like it. It promised so much and delivered too much meh.

I support local. I support clean food. I wanted GOODONYA to become a go-to. The people were nice, the place was clean and convenient, and a later visit was a little better. But good intentions are not the same thing as good value.

The service was a B+ — which is exceptional these days. The people were genuinely nice. The herbal cocktails were tasty.

The food was too average for the price, and the cocktails were painfully slow. There are too many clean-food options to pay a premium for mediocrity.

No. The main problem was the value of the food: too pricey for pretty average food.

Already did. I went back. It was a bit better. Since then I’ve driven by several times and chosen somewhere else.

Someone for whom organic sourcing outweighs the value equation. That isn’t enough for me.

I’d spend the money at another clean-food restaurant that works harder on the food itself.

THE VERDICT

SKIP — I ALREADY GAVE IT THE SECOND CHANCE.

I am not looking for reasons to destroy somebody. I’m looking for reasons to recommend them. They just have to earn it.
